The Silver Square

A 32 bar Reel for a 5 couple square

Devised by Terry Glasspool, Vestal, NY

Couples 1, 2, 3 and 4 form a normal square, Couple 5 starts in the center facing Couple 1.

1 - 8

Parallel reels-of-3 up and down the dance. 5th Man gives Right shoulder to 1st Woman, 5th Woman gives Right shoulder to 1st Man to begin.

9 - 16

Shadow reel-of-3 across the dance.

NOTE: 2nd and 4th Couples face down, 5th Couple faces 4th Couple and gives them Left shoulder to begin. (4th Woman, 5th Man and 2nd Man lead their partners.)

17 - 24

1st and 5th Couples dance half Rights and Lefts. 1st and 5th Couples dance 4 hands once round to the left only. End with 1st Couple in center.

25 - 32

1st Couple (in center) turn for 8 bars to end facing 1st Couple position

WHILE others dance 8 hands half-way round to the left, all set, and pulling back Right shoulder chase CW one place to finish 2, 3, 4, 5 with 1st Couple still in center.

NOTE: Deviser says turn in center is "dancer's choice," and he prefers the "buzz step" or "contra dance swing." If using kilt or elbow grip, turn 4 bars to the Right and 4 bars to the Left.

Repeat 4 times from new positions.

(5 squared = 25)
